Twitter Power: Oprah and Ashton Explode Social Media

If you are already a Twitter user, you know what happened with Oprah and Ashton. Twitter hit it big this week when both high profile celebrities opened up the flood gates to the fastest growing Social Media site, Ashton being the first user to hit 1,000,000 followers and Oprah sending her first tweet.

We MUST address the elephant in the room, Social Media is NOT a passing fad, it is a powerhouse, as we saw with Aston (@aplusk) and Oprah (@oprah).

Mari Smith (@marismith), a well known Facebook expert says it best: "Can you imagine the even bigger difference we can make on the planet individually and collectively when more and more visionaries, enlightened leaders and luminaries fully integrate the power of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter?!"

The truth is, there is power in numbers and with Social Media it is easy to connect with "like minded" individuals to address whatever it is you want to address. Ashton's drive for malaria nets is a great example of quickly something can be addressed.

Recent Twitter Statistics:

  • Feb 08 - Feb 09 ~ 1382% Growth | Nielsen Online
  • Age's 35-49 makes up for 41.7% of total Twitter users
  • 56% of Tweeters use it for business
  • Twitter jumped 19 spots to 3rd in Social Media rankings
  • Currently 3,000,000 daily tweets

As one of our local radio DJ's said "It's time to ditch the dinosaur mentality or become extinct". Timing is everything and now is the time to get on top of the Social Media explosion!
