Dr Suess Defines Social Media Transparency

Because of Social Media ....Transparency is a BIG word these days. A word that everyone needs to get used to fast. Crazy thing is...in an era where transparency is becoming the norm, most people are scared to death by it.

Why?

Simply put: We have been conditioned for pretty much our whole lives to stay guarded and protect our "personal space".

But....How can we step outside of the transparency box that we have lived in forever?

Try this:

Go to a playground and watch children playing. Pay close attention to them when they come into contact with another child that they have never met.  Just a tiny bit shy at first and within 5 minutes the communication flood gates open and they are best friends...right?

That's because they haven't been stripped of their transparent tendencies.

Now, I think we could all take a lesson from kids on how "being transparent" is a very effective tool in building solid networks! Bottom line...If kids ran the business world, everyone would be friends and trust each other, sobering thought hunh?

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

                                                                                                        ~ Dr Suess

Dr Suess is a household name and children learn from him every day....maybe it's time us adults take a look at what he has to say.

Back to the Basics....Elementary my dear friends

Yes, we need to take off the multiple of masks we wear to hide our real selves and be like kids- open, accessible and transparent.

This is the nice article. The author focuses on right difference between kids and us. Kids are really transparent.

I agree that we should apply this in the business world as well. Everyone is afraid of what someone might say or perceive a person who is willing to not really let their guard down in essence, but to allow one to open up to the possibilities that networking has to offer.

In the present position transparency is the big issue everywhere.every one should know about social media & what is happening .

Great article.I totally agree with the fact that there needs to be transparency in the business world so that success is earned the hard way and not by taking some easy route.

Great Article - but there is such a thing as too much transparency and people still need to be guarded for that, and know where to draw the line. For example, putting your full name, date of birth & address on your Facebook profile is an open invitation to identity theft or worse. There is also the example of a gang who targeted home thefts based on when people in the neighborhood advertised they were going on vacation on their statuses! These are issues that a 3-year-old on the playground doesn't have the awareness of. Do I want to share photos of my 4-year-old having fun in the paddling pool in the summer? Absolutely - these are treasured memories that our family, 5000 miles away, will cherish. But, do I want some anonymous pedophile drooling over that same photo? I think not. Social Media has revolutionized our ability to communicate and network, but it has also opened up a can of worms to exploit if some guards don't remain.
