Naming Your Facebook Fan/Business Page β 5 HOT Tips
Feb 15, 2010 at 4:04PM

What’s in name? The answer is simple when you take it piece by piece.
Depending on what type of business page you are naming… it could be anything from the actual name of your business, to your personal name, to a trade, to a passion and so on.
When choosing a name, you must put some thought into it and play it smart. You will attract organic traffic from Google and other search engines based on the title of your page. Utilize the power of Google here!
Careful though, you must remember not to limit yourself by using words in your title that could become obsolete. No matter what name you choose, the following tips are all something to take into consideration:
1. Make sure it’s a name you like: As of right now, you can only change the name of your Fan Page up until you have 100 "likes". Think long term...what name will best suit this page forever?
2. 75 Characters, including spaces: Not a lot of space, so use it wisely. Think to yourself, if someone were searching on Google for what my page has to offer...what might they type in the search bar?
3. When to use your actual company name:
- you own the company or
- your company allows* you to or
- You KNOW you will never leave this company
* keeping in mind they could change their policy at any given time
4. When to use your personal name: For anyone who is branding their self, we definitely recommend you do have your personal name in the title along with some descriptive words on who you are
5. Use Keywords! Google loves keywords, Google loves Social Media, Google indexes Facebook….need I say more? Carefully choose keywords, make sure to use words related to your industry that will always be relevant. If you are branding yourself, use descriptive keywords that will position you exactly where you want to be. Use words that you are passionate about, words that you strive to be.
It’s like building a house, go for the solid foundation and then build upon it. Take some time, check out these tips and let us know what you decided to title your page in the comment section of this post.

Very good advice, especially using your 75 characters wisely. You can attract business with just a few short, relevant, and catchy words, so this is really important. Thanks for the good advice! ;)
I liked the advice about not choosing words that may become obsolete. That sometimes might be difficult to predict, but staying away from the trendy is good advice for a long-lasting page name.

Michelle, I think you are right on with the advice about keywords. Using the same ones that pull up competing websites will put your page in the Google Search results list. This is vital if you want to stay neck and neck with the competition.

the information about naming was a very good piece of information. But i dont agree with that 75 lon character concept
Very informative article. A name is very important and generally some persons will not put much thought into the business aspect of it. As you said, the name can help drive business if you include keywords that persons are searching for. Tip #2 is very useful as 75 words may seem like a lot, but it really isn't. Make the name work for you.
Good concise article. I agree that you should put thought into the name. Using words that are relevant and practical in terms of what persons are searching for is a good idea. Great advice to follow before you choose a name!
The article very correctly says about how to choose an name. Choosing a name is very important as it is only through the name that others can actually get the first impression. When to use your actual company name is the one I liked the most. Usually people tend to use there current company name and many not be there in the company after 2 or 3 years. Next time when I use the company I shall be careful. Thank you.

Great post! You gave some great tips, that people might not always think of right away. The right name is a big decision, and one that should definitely be considered carefully, but I think a lot of people just quickly fill out the information and type something into that spot without really thinking about it. Thanks for helping me to re-focus on this important key - this post was definitely thought provoking for me!
Thanks for the interesting article. For someone interested in a little self-promotion (for a photography business I hope to start soon) this is certainly an informative starting place. I will be visiting this page again soon to see what all it has to offer. Thanks--Photopsalms.
Thanks so much for the invaluable tips! I will definitely use your tips especially those keywords!
Awesome article - nice simple, but very effective, tips. Although, Facebook has made some new changes (shocker!) so #1 isn't quite right - you can now change the Page name, as long as you have less than 100 members/"likers". They also now let you pick your Page's URL (or at least the bit that follows www.facebook.com/ !) - this pick is a one-time-decision deal, tho.
